The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of two exercise products manufactured by Johnson Health Tech North America Inc.: Ascent Trainer® by Matrix and Matrix Fitness Elliptical. Machines installed from November 2011 through December 2012 are included in the recall which comes after 44 occurrences of sparks, smoke, and melting were found around the products’ power cords and sockets. Moisture from sweat and cleaning products may get trapped in the power sockets on the units which can cause short circuits and fire hazards. While no injuries have been reported, one incident of a power socket and cord catching fire was noted:
